International Conference on Sustainability Education -2021

On September 9th, 2021, the 3rd International Conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE) was organized between September 9-10, 2021, from 14:00 – 18:00 hrs by Mobius Foundation in collaboration with key environmental organizations such as Climate Reality Project, UNESCO, UNEP, Centre for Environment Education (CEE), Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE, Copenhagen), The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI), Earth Day Network, IUCN, Earth Overshoot, WWF India, PFI, WTI, TERRE Policy Centre, etc. The year 2021 marked the launch of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021 – 2030).

The first day of the ICSE 2021 focused on the theme “Education for Ecosystem Restoration”. The deliberations of the 2nd day were devoted to the theme of “Climate Literacy”, in view of the urgent need to create an enlightened citizenry for concrete action on climate change. This was organized in continuation of the ‘Climate Literacy Conclave for South Asia’ held by Mobius Foundation with Climate Reality Project and Earth Day Network to mark the 51st anniversary of Earth Day on April 22nd, 2021.

The Conference explored innovations and trends in sustainability education in school systems globally. It aimed to challenge the existing paradigm in education, addressing the quality missing in the current education structure.

Over 1000+ participants from across the globe took part in the online event, featuring various sessions on sustainable education. The conference included 4 plenaries and 11 parallel technical sessions, alongside exhibitions, poster sessions, and an e-resource center. More than 70+ eminent experts participated in the conference, including speakers like Mr. Rajendra Singh, Water Man of India and Ramon Magsaysay Award winner for community leadership in 2001, Padma Shri awardee Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi, founder of Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO), Shri Atul Bagai, Head, UN Environment Country Office, India, Mr. Tery Spahr, Founder and Director, Earth Overshoot, Mr. Kartikeya Sarabhai, Founder and Director, Centre for Environment Education (CEE), and Karuna A Singh, Regional Director Asia, EARTHDAY.ORG.
